I am told that my final grades are due to the Department by April 2. After 9PM tomorrow (the time the survey will be closed) I will post the point tallies and show a conversion to letter grade so that you can see how your final grade will be determined (I am not suppose to “give out” official grades but with you doing the math I think I preclude breaking house rules.

For the last quiz grade please fill out the teaching evaluation form found at the website below. As of 11:23PM this evening your total point tally includes 15 extra points for completing this assignment. The 15 ponts will stay if this survey is completed and submitted online by 9PM Saturday March 29th. If it is not completed, the 15 points will be changed to a 0 (absolutely no exceptions).

Someone asked whether the Nernst Equation would be on the Exam. The answer is no–we did not cover in class (next topic). Again the Exam starts at 7AM, so please let your classmates know especially those that enjoy sleeping in.

Ok, the Exam is set na. There will be four major questions each with 7-10 mini-questions. The exam is all short answer with no multiple choice–it just seem to make sense on this one.

The themes are Absorption Spectrophotometry, Transition Metal Complexes, EDTA titrations, and Electrochemistry–all stuff we covered in great detail in class. The Exam problems are similar to the assigned problems and homework. If you know the concepts and the homework you should find it easy.

Lecture slides and homework solutions have been updated.

Just to summarize the Presentation for next Tuesday morning:

–Time Limit: 10-15 minute long.
–My recommendation goes something like this (which does not necessarily have to be followed). A big goal is to be yourself, be creative and use your imagination to inspire and be interesting.
–No cue cards, no note reading or you can’t read from the slides. You guys will have to practice. 1-person can give the presentation from the group although all of you will responsible for knowing the material when questions are asked.

A reasonable slide approach (but not cast in stone) would be:

Slide 1 Presentation Title, Group Member Names
Slide 2 Tell Us What You Did and Why (tell an interesting story)
Slide 3 Tell Us How You Did It (collecting the sample, the technique, what it is, what it measures, who did it)
Slide 4 Tell Us What You Found (results, boo-boos, does it make sense)
Slide 5 Tell Us why we should care (significance)
Slide 6 Tell Us Anything Else You think we should know about your Group and why you deserve a good or poor grade.

+/- 2 slides is ok show me that you care about what you are doing.

I like the presentation approach presented there so much that all of my future classes that use Powerpoint will use this model. It just seems to make a lot of sense. Download the Assertion-Evidence Slides powerpoint templates (most of them are the same so pick one) and use this as the format for your Powerpoint presentation. I also have the book that the website references. It’s a good read and very informative. If you want to deviate from the template that’s ok, but if you best improve on the website concept. Ian-Ken, your classmates and I will assess your knowledge and understanding of the technique so everyone in the Group please be prepared. Don’t hesitate to ask questions.
